John Alchemy, MD

Founder

Dr. Alchemy, MD, is a distinguished physician, entrepreneur, and innovator with over three decades of clinical and legal experience in occupational medicine. He leveraged this experience to start RateFast, a pioneering technology company he founded in 2013 to revolutionize workers’ compensation impairment rating processes.

Throughout his career, Dr. Alchemy has demonstrated exceptional vision in identifying and solving critical inefficiencies in workers’ compensation systems. As a Qualified Medical Examiner (QME) in California and Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice (DABFP), he holds eight USPTO patents in insurance, impairment rating, and database validation and design, with additional patents pending. His co-development of Variable Thread Analytic Computation (VTAC) technology has transformed impairment report writing, reducing processing time from 90 minutes to just 90 seconds while maintaining accuracy.

His educational background includes a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota Medical School (1994) and completion of the Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of California San Diego (1994-1997). He has published numerous research papers on telemedicine applications in occupational medicine, anticipating industry needs before they became mainstream.

With his unique combination of medical expertise, technological innovation, and entrepreneurial success, Dr. Alchemy continues to lead advancements in workers’ compensation systems, creating value for medical providers, insurance companies, employers, and injured workers alike.

Joyce Reitman

Chief Executive Officer

Joyce Reitman, MBA, is a multifaceted executive and entrepreneur with extensive experience in technology, healthcare, and financial services. Her career includes serving as a CEO and advisor to AI-based medical services companies, leveraging her expertise in digital health and SaaS solutions.

Throughout her career, Joyce has demonstrated a remarkable ability to lead and scale organizations, having grown companies from inception to hundreds of employees and managed budgets in the tens of millions of dollars. Her experience includes founding five companies, two of which were successfully sold to publicly traded acquirers.

Joyce recently served as CEO of Motionloft, a portfolio company of Mark Cuban Companies (2013-2019), integrating AI, sensor, and hardware technology. During her tenure, she expanded the company into international markets and grew the customer base 19-fold. From that role, she moved on to become an Executive Advisor reporting to Mark Cuban.

Joyce’s background in digital health is particularly noteworthy. She founded Wellplace, an innovative online platform for behavioral health diagnosis and treatment that was acquired by PHC and Acadia Healthcare. This venture showcased her ability to merge technology with healthcare services, a skill highly relevant to AI-based medical solutions. She also led efforts for the National Science Foundation’s SBIR program as a commercialization expert for over 20 companies in diverse healthcare and technology industries.

In addition to the above, Joyce held management positions inside such industry giants as JPMorgan and General Electric, et al and has helped forge partnerships with such leaders as Nvidia, Docomo, and Cisco.

Her educational background includes an MBA from Santa Clara University with a dual emphasis in Marketing and Economics, and a BA from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Joyce has also completed financial certification at Wharton.

With her blend of technological innovation, healthcare expertise, and proven leadership, Joyce Reitman is well-positioned to drive advancements in AI-based medical services, serving RateFast in its growth as a market leader.

Dr. Marsha Bluto, MD

EVP, Sales

A distinguished healthcare executive with a 40-year career spanning clinical practice, corporate leadership, and healthcare innovation, Dr. Bluto brings extensive experience to drive strategic initiatives in AI-powered medical solutions.

Her corporate leadership experience includes executive roles at global medical device and technology companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, and Stryker. As VP, Medical Management for PPMSI, a wholly owned subsidiary of HCA Healthcare, Dr. Bluto designed, implemented and evaluated medical management programs responsible for the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare. She also served as Director of Medical Operations for Concentra Occupational Health in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she honed her expertise in the Workers Compensation Industry. In addition to having had her own successful PM&R practice, Dr. Bluto was the founding Director of the PM&R Department at San Mateo Medical Center.

Dr. Bluto holds an MD from Penn State College of Medicine and completed her residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Stanford University Hospital & Clinics. She also possesses a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Michael Bongiovanni

Chief Information Officer

Michael Bongiovanni brings a concentrated mix of technology and business management experience. He previously held senior leadership roles at Sage Software, where he successfully managed a channel portfolio of over 1,000 partners and led 150-person teams with diverse skill sets. Bongiovanni also founded and grew LMW Consulting, a managed services provider specializing in IT solutions for small to medium-sized businesses.

Dr. Jerry Artz

Head of Research

Dr. Jerry L. Artz, PhD, serves as the Head of Research at RateFast. In this role, he leads a multidisciplinary team developing proprietary algorithms that quantify injury severity and predict clinical outcomes with unprecedented accuracy. Dr. Artz’s work integrates advanced statistical methods and machine learning to refine impairment rating systems, ensuring compliance with AMA guidelines while significantly reducing claim disputes.

With 47 years of academic experience, Dr. Artz is also a Professor Emeritus of Physics at Hamline University (1977–present)[1]. His background in low-energy nuclear physics and thermodynamic modeling provides a robust foundation for his current work in medical data science. At RateFast, he has spearheaded groundbreaking projects, including the development of anomaly detection algorithms to enhance claim processing efficiency.

Dr. Artz holds a PhD in Physics from Florida State University and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Minnesota. His academic career has been marked by numerous accolades, including three Outstanding Teacher Awards and the Merrill C. Burgess Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has authored over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented at more than 15 national conferences.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Artz is an accomplished tennis player, having won Minnesota’s Senior State Championship in singles and doubles in 2014. This competitive spirit mirrors his professional ethos: “Precision in measurement, integrity in outcomes.”

Bruce Bolon

Advisor

Bruce Bolon, PhD, is a distinguished physicist and academic leader who serves as an advisor to RateFast. As a full professor in the Department of Physics at Hamline University, Dr. Bolon brings over two decades of expertise in physics education, interdisciplinary research, and academic leadership to his role at RateFast.

In his capacity as an advisor, Dr. Bolon contributes to the development of innovative computational methods for impairment rating in workers’ compensation cases. His collaboration with RateFast has led to the creation of the Functional Loss Rating Method, which applies Bayesian statistics and machine learning to standardize impairment assessments.

Prior to joining Hamline University in 2002, Dr. Bolon held positions at Minnesota State University-Mankato and the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he honed his skills in physics education and research. His academic journey includes a PhD in Theoretical Plasma Physics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, an MS in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics from Iowa State University, and a BS in Physics from Southwest Missouri State University.

Prior to joining Hamline University in 2002, Dr. Bolon held positions at Minnesota State University-Mankato and the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he honed his skills in physics education and research. A recipient of Hamline’s Teaching Excellence Award, Dr. Bolon has taught over 15 distinct physics courses and is known for his innovative approach to pedagogy. He has presented his research at conferences such as the American Physical Society April Meeting and co-hosts the California Work Comp Report podcast, discussing intersections of physics, medicine, and policy.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Dr. Bolon is an avid racquetball player and baseball enthusiast, often drawing parallels between sports mechanics and physics principles in his lectures. This unique blend of academic rigor and real-world application makes Dr. Bolon a valuable asset to both RateFast and the broader scientific community.
